Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive Chennai-Kanchipuram - Mahabalipuram Welcome to Chennai, the capital of Tamilnadu. Today proceed to Kanchipuram to visit famous Shri Lakshmi Narayani Golden temple & Kanchipuram, popular for its renowned crafted world famous Silk sarees. Time to enjoy shopping. Proceed to Mahabalipuram. Evening for relaxation. Overnight stay. Day 02: Mahabalipuram – Puducherry In Mahabalipuram visit shore temple an excellent example of Pallav art, Arjuna's Penance one of the most beautiful stone carvings, Cave Temples, Krishna's Butter ball, Five Rathas - perfect examples of the evolution of Dravidian style architecture & beautiful Beach. After sightseeing proceed to Puducherry, earlier known as Pondicherry & affectionately known as Pondy. Visit famous Aurobindo Ashram. Overnight stay at Puducherry. Day 03: Pondicherry Local Sightseeing Today visit Auroville, Churches, Temples & enjoy Beach in Puducherry. Overnight stay. Day 04: Pondicherry – Chidambaram – Kumbhakonam – Tanjavur Proceed to Chidambaram, well known for The Nataraja Temple, The roof of the sanctum sanctorum is covered with Gold Plates. It is enjoined that all those who visit Chidambaram should pay a visit to Thillaikaliamman Temple. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Kumbhakonam is a good base to visit the superb Chola temples nearby, or to head east to the coastal towns of the Cauvery Delta. Proceed to Tanjavur. Overnight stay. Day 05: Tanjavur – Trichy – Madurai Proceed to Madurai via Trichy. In Trichy visit Rock Fort, historic fort and temple complex built on an ancient rock & Sri Rangam Temple. In Madurai visit Tirumalai Nayak Palace, The imposing edifice is famous for the “Stuccowork” on its domes and impressive arches. Visit famous Meenakshi Temple, a striking feature of the temple is the astonishing structure of the Hall of Thousand Pillars, an architectural masterpiece indeed. When it is tapped, each pillar produces different musical note. Also visit Mariamman Tank and Kodal Alagar Temple. Overnight stay at Madurai. Day 06: Madurai-Rameswaram Proceed to Rameswaram. It is the place from where Lord Rama, built a bridge across the sea to rescue Sita, from Ravana. This is also the place where Rama worshipped Lord Shiva to cleanse away the sin of killing Ravana. Overnight at Rameshwaram. Day 07: Rameswaram – Madurai via Dhanush kodi Morning Proceed to Dhnush kodi. Dhanushkodi translates to the end of the bow. And the bow we are discussing here is Lord Rama's. The legend has it that when Ravana kidnapped Sita and took her to Lanka, the events propelled Lord Rama to build the Rama Sethu Bridge also known as Adam's Bridge. Back to Madurai.
